Default cheap hipo cam

I am installing a 16 hp vanguard in a yamaha g9. I was removing the govenor weights and i cut the brad holding the compression relief on. I looked at the aftermarket cams but 200 bucks seemed a bit much. I found a 23 hp cam on ebay. more lift and duration than the 16. has anyone tried it. The seller said it will improve performance. anyone tried it?

It does, but its not going to do what aftermarket can. All depends on what you want. Big cams can require other mods as well.

looking for low end. Will see how this goes. I do not want to get into cutting valve reliefs in pistons etc. Durability is also important. think this will be am improvement.

Precision Cams makes all kinds of cams, for about any powerband you want. But they cost what they cost. You can call them they are nice and will tell you what they can do. That said you need more than stock rpm or significant head work to get more torque with these, or more displacement. For low rpm at say 2-2.5K the stock cams are often quite good. Over 3500 aftermarket cams can make a big difference and make them blow up a lot faster if you don't put all the parts in lol.

I did get the rev kit from cpp for insurance against the blow up factor. I dont think i will need it but it should help the longevity factor.

They used to be $104 for a vannie, well worth it. You can mostly run it to where ever it pulls to, if you have 22s or HS gears or more. Really unless I shoot down the road to another trail I never wind it out much. The trails I run are far too tight for that. They are trying to get golf carts legal there though, we will see, then high gearing/speed may become more important lol.
