Default HELP Gearing and Motor

I have had a CC DS with a 18hp vanny for about a year now, from the start the motor wouldnt idle very good but for the amount of use it wasnt that big of a deal. we are starting to camp alot more now and I would like to have a trouble free cart, so I am hoping all you experts BB guys can .

The motor:
18hp vangaurd with hi rev kit, 2-1 header w/muffler, drop in K/N and Tach

first issue/question, it has a 15.1 posi rear (i dont like it at all cant turn with wieght on the back) the cart tops out at 26mph at 6500 rpm. i have read some post where guys say they can smoke the tires? mine doesnt even really spin in the dirt??? it also has a hesitation at part throttle. any tuning tips are greatly appreciated

second question, i want to get rid of the posi and put a more hi speed setup in it, not trying to break any speed records but would like to go faster and not give up all the low end torque....... once i find that torque......

lastly front end, the stock 6" kit on this thing has got to go way to stiff! which longtravel kit is the best for the buck?

Thx Jason

PS I am open to trades on different gear set and suspension if anyone is interested.

Default Re: HELP Gearing and Motor

About your front end stiffness, do you have one or two leafs in there? If two... you could remove one leaf to soften it up a little. What air pressure are you running your tires at? Tire size/wheel size? Type of tires? 2 ply/4 ply? About your rough idle... I would talk to Tom and or Ron at Cart Parts Plus's Forum and see if they can help you straighten that out. What RPM are you idling at? Have you checked the clearance on your valves? By the way, what year is your cart? I too have a CC DS ,1988 with a 18hp Vanny, K/N filter, getting ready to install my rev kit soon and thinking bout pulling the choke plate. Mine will run 25 to 26 mph at about 4000 RPM. Stock gears and 22 inch tires. I have also been contimplating the 8 to 1 gears. I just bought the Vanguard service manual so any info I can get from there for you would be no problem. Just let me know what you need to know. I'm still pretty new to these engines but i'll help you any way I can. There are plenty of other guys on here that know alot more than me so hopefully one or a few of them will pickup on this thread.
