Minimum shaft length for 1" clutches?
I got a 18hp vangaurd to go into my exgo with a blown motor. After getting it and looking at it, Im concerned that the shaft has been chopped down and now isnt long enough to properly support a drive clutch. About how much is needed? Id guess that I have about 2.5" of 1" shaft or so. Its hard to say because theres a drive flange on the shaft currently and i havent yet been able to get it off :(
Thanks in advance. |

Well here's what it looks like. From the end of the shaft to where the radius to the larger surface is is about 1.830.

Re: Minimum shaft length for 1" clutches?
I simply slid my CC clutch onto the shaft of my clone and scribed a line where it bottomed out. Measured that length and then cut the shaft from the shoulder on the clone crank to that same length -2mm. That allows the clutch to be fully seated against shoulder and the retaining bolt to press the clutch against the crank shoulder.
Hope that helps. Chris. |

Well what you're talking about is more like setup stuff which im not quite to the point of just yet.
With as little time I had to get on tje computer all this time I been thinking I was going to need a aftermarket clutch which is another way that link helped. I saw the taper adapter om toms site and assumed it was to adapt a larger aftermarket clutch. Someone told me to use mu stock clutch I had to bore it out.... Well I seem to be off to a good start. Going to order the adapter tomorrow from tom to swap my clutch over and will also stop at the hardware store to get a bolt to make a puller. Just have to decide if I want to fab a cradle or buy it... id actually rather retain the factory rubber mount. I've had drag cars with the heim joints and don't really want all the clunking...
