Default Yamaha Kodiak to G-8 cart conversion???

I have a friend who is selling me a 1993 Yamaha Kodiak 4 wheel drive atv for next to nothing! No tires or rims and needs piston and rings but I was wondering if anyone has done one of these. Maybe pass on any pitfalls and the like. My welding skills are ok and the engine rebuild stuff been doing for years. It has a single cylinder 500 motor I think. Maybe advice from the more experianced should I pass on it. The four wheel drive interests me for a golf cart. I also can get a running 1989 SRV Yamaha snowmobile cheap with a 500 fan cooled motor in it. Is this a simpler and better choice? Will the ATV conversion be a nightmare.

More questions: The golf cart is a lot heavier than a four wheeler. Can you use the front ends and other suspension parts without " beefing them up "? I dont see a lot of four wheel drive golf carts . Any advice greatly appreciated! If this idea is poor what about a 550 fan cooled Yamaha snowmobile motor?

My fear would be you do a heck of a lot of work with the Kodiak and find out that motor is a dog in the cart. It would be a neat project though.

Just my thoughts. A 4 wheel drive golf car...very cool Would the 500cc engine handle the weight of the golf car frame, why wouldn't it? What do you want it to do? As for fab work..."ALOT OF WORK" and hours of head scratching, tack welding, redesighn, but wouldn't it be fantastic when you have it finished?

I am not sure but I believe the Kodiak also has a high low range with a 6 speed. I would think that might compensate for the extra weight..........right????? Not too concerned with speed just power. I think 20 MPH is good enough for me!!!
