Default Minimum Requirement ?

Hi all,

Ok ,silly question time,
I have a Club Car DS gas,2000
If I were to buy a B&G 18hp vangaurd, what are the least ammount of mods I'd have to do,to make to fit it?
I've read loads of threads about it but can't work out the difference between what is neccessary and what is going to the extreme.

It's ok......you can call me stupid!

Regards Ian.

Ps , I'm in the UK,so I don't have the availability of specialist parts etc that you guys have.

not sure , on my build , bought a cc with no engine, no clutch, no belt so purchased a used 16 hp briggs , new clutch and belt. drilled new holes in motor mount and bolted it together. also bought new key switch to make it crank like a lawn mower, hope this helps. ps. a lift helps with motor clearance...

Hi Ian, have you read the threads on this swap ? There's a ton of information on this subject. Tom at CPP has a drop in kit available or you might consider using one of these; http://www.maxtool.com/us/products/XP16HPE.asp
Whichever way you go will require modifying the exhaust, engine mounts etc so don't expect anything other than a direct replacement motor to drop right in.
Have a read up or do a search mate and good luck

Chris.

Way to mount the engine, either purchased or home made and minimum 4" lift to clear the motor. Probably a different exhaust, performance clutch to get the most out of the new motor, wire harness a new key switch, new drive belt. If all that works out, better suspension and brakes are gonna be on the wish list too.........Then of course you will need to paint, custom tires and bigger wheels, etc etc etc......

Thanks Flintrock,
I'm gonna do the whole lift, wheels, tyres and paint thing but I need to keep the mechanical side of things as stock as possible, the reason being is that eventually it's gonna get shipped to Antigua and getting hold of parts isn't going to be easy.
So if I do go the big block route,I spose what I'm asking is,can I use all the stock parts ie clutch/drive items etc or do I upgrade them as well?
Obviously I will have to address the wiring side of things but again ,how much of the original can I keep,ie the "start on throttle "arangement etc?
There's a lot of buggys in Antigua ,so getting standard parts isn't too difficult but anything else would be a nightmare.

Maybe I've answered my own question.Thoughts anyone?

You can use the original S/G unit to retain the pedal start, the solenoids and voltage regulator etc will all transfer across. You can also use the original clutches and even the exhaust system ( with some modifications ).
Parts are readily available for the more commonly used clones and big blocks so whichever way you go you should be ok.

I would stick with a "name brand", Briggs, Honda etc. so repair parts really shouldn't be an issue. It is much easier to get one with an electric starter and just do a key start, very simple. Buy one with a one inch straight output shaft and "splurge" on a performance drive clutch that's rated more for the motor. You will be happier in the long run with better performance and longevity.
