chain drive setup
Any ideas on a chain drive setup instead of clutches and belt? I have a 1993vtwin club car with 18hp briggs. I don't like the belt slipping anymore I want to try sprockets and chain setup

Re: chain drive setup
Your going to lose alot by going with chain, the variable clutches give you the "gear change" so to speak, with the chain it will be like 1st gear all the time.

Re: chain drive setup
hes correct the Vary Drive allows you to have the best of both worlds, low end and high end. I used to race go-carts and we had to tune the gears to the track. 1 speed wide open. Also you will melt one of those centrifical clutches.
Need to check why yours is slipping. Mine slips but I know I need a new belt. I put some spray belt condioner on my belt and it helps alot.(that may be a no no) |

Re: chain drive setup
Ok. I know it slips because its the wrong size belt I got the belt that closest for my application I searched and searched but can't find the correct size. I used the stock cc clutch but my new motor is 6in inches farther away from the rear than the stock motor.

Re: chain drive setup
Think you would be better off to move the engine, It must not be to far off if its working with just some slippage. If you can not go forward with engine perhaps you could raise engine and have the same effect.
Just a thought Good luck |

Re: chain drive setup
I made the engine mounts with 2in slotted holes and is in the farthest position now. I've tried everything I can think of.

Re: chain drive setup
If the center of the two clutches are parallel you could raise the engine.
New engine mount. Depending on your set-up you could build a lift kit for the rear end? Think you would be very unhappy if you went to go cart set up. You need the gear change the belt/clutches provide. Let us know what you do and how it works out. Its a learning process for all on this site. |
