Default Tapered shaft vanguard motors ?

Can you use these Briggs Vanny's tapered shaft motors on Yamaha cluches? I have used the CPP clucth adapter on my other Vanny but it had the straight 1 inch diameter 3.5 inch long shaft. Some decent prices on these motors on E-Bay. Before I mess up I need some of you wizards expert advice. Sho?

I know this wont help you with your cart but good info just the same.... had to cut the crank 2 inches, drill and tap the crank and the club cc clutch went right on the tapered shaft engine

Everyone says they don't, but I don't know anyone that actually tried. The taper is 30mm on a cart and most sleds iirc. You can have a machine shop make an adapter, or if you know someone. You can slip a different crank in or have that one modded. I know the taper is about 1" long, I can measure the one on my old cart motor next time I see it but only have some old calipers there. The smallest end is very close to 1" my adapter is very thin at the end.

I did find a taper shaft vanguard once, it was sold as a spec engine for some racing thing with little midget cars. Actually it was modded some and not really a bad deal to buy that way.

I have modified two crankshafts to accept the 110 mm 30:1 taper that a stock or "taper" clutch fits..

I guess I am saying if Dav1774 has a tapered shaft engine that the clutch *fit*, then it only follows it was that taper.

Now, to other tapers..

the adapter works great, for the 1" shafts.

The other taper shafts I have measured would not work it I cut them off, I use a micrometer to measure at certain points, and had a machinist do the same thing.

One I modified, had a generator type taper, long and skinny almost to a point.
The other was a huge straight shaft, an inch and 7/16 or so.. huge, so I tapered it, because the engine was a steal..

I just pulled the drive shaft out and had it turned to 1 inch whith a keyway. I ended up with 2. 1/2 inches.
