Muffler Question?
I put a Blue max 16hp engine in my Cushman and bought mandrell bent 1.25 tubing and welded up the head pipe and welded it to a stock muffler off of a 295cc robin engine that has a 1.25 pipe going into the muffler and a 5/8 tail pipe coming out of it. The motor seems to lay down about 2900-3000 rpm. Do you think the stock tail pipe is the bottle neck? I think I can cut the muffler and replace the 5/8 tail pipe with a 1.25 pipe like the rest of the exhaust system. Does this seem reasonable or do you think it will drastically reduce the efficiency of the muffler?? should I do a 1.00" instead??

Re: Muffler Question?
If you go to the EZ GO gas *section* on the home page of the forum, you will see a section about *mods* somewhere in there..and there is a good one on that muffler.
If it was me, I would not use it, because it is not designed for large volume outflow at all..in fact, that seems to be the opposite of the design of that muffler..it has a large expansion chamber and a small outlet..and it usually fits a 9 hp, or at most, an 11 hp of the stock Robin motor. Yours , by it's very nature, sizewise, is too much volume of exhaust for that muffler..you could mod it for time being, but I would try to come up with something that doesn't hamper it's outflow. |
