Default I need help deciding between a Briggs or Honda. Need to decide quick!

So I have a brand new 20 hp Honda. I was going to swap it into my ezgo. I just ran across a 19 hp Briggs for 100 bucks! It came off a generator. Will the tapered shaft fit my clutch? If so I think it would be an easier swap. Any thoughts?

It makes more sense to me that you use the Honda. It would only require cutting, drilling and tapping the crank along with an adapter to make it work.
Perhaps someone with experience of the B&S engine could let you know if the taper will work. Whichever route you decide to go I'm sure you will be happy.

Everything being equal I would go with a briggs. I dont like having to choke my Honda 20 everytime. Plus there are mor aftermarket parts for the briggs. But , if it is going to be a lot of trouble with the tapered shaft I would just use the Honda.

Ditto on Brooklyns response, Tom at CPP has the adapter you'll need

Thanks guys. I think its going to be a game day decision lol. I should be done with the lift and ready to make the motor mount on tues. Guess I will have to decide then. So is the Briggs as reliable as the Honda? It came off of a generac gen. I heard ups and downs about them.

The CPP adapter is for cart taper (30mm:1), the generator taper is different.....I have never seen an adapter for a generator taper and the stub is usually very short, but I guess a good machine shop could make you one. I would pick the Honda over that Briggs......

I think you will pick the Honda in your case. Put the honda in there and if later you want to change the crank in the Briggs to a 1 in shaft. It wont take much to swap engines. I am very happy with the performance of my Honda. I put a timing key and better valve springs in it. I have hit 35 mph with 23" tires. For me that is plenty fast enough

I like the briggs over the honda ...either will do fine its just what you want to do with it . both are very reliable but many more performance parts for the briggs ...i have 3 ez-gos 2 with 23hp briggs one with a stock motor ....my lifted cart runs 52 mph in the 1/8 mile & my drag cart also 23hp briggs it runs 65 mph ..9.3 in 1/8 mile

You can easily have the crank machined. My crank was originally a generator taper but it was machined to a 1 inch straight shaft with 1/4" keyway.
