| going to be purchasing the clutch adapter from cpp shortly so that I can use my original cc clutch on my 14hp vanguard. But before I do, can someone tell me about how much of the vanguard crankshaft gets cut off. I believe I read somewhere that all the vanguards have a 2 and 29/32, shaft length up to the shoulder. and my second question is after the clutch is all mounted on, how much distance is there from the clutch to the block and will these motors idle down so that you can shift from forward to reverse without shutting them off? thanx wnk. |

| The idle down is primarily in the clutch not the engine. Some clutches have a roller in the center the belt rides on so it can shift, yamaha for example do not. Some yami you can shift quick at slow idle and others you can't. Also some have a spring in the primary that spreads it apart better at idle and those are better but belt can still drag, yami clutches don't have springs except the old G1 original clutch. If it will not idle down you may have to mod the carb to adjust the mixture, and maybe adjust the valve lash to control when the compression release stops working. The cut off depends on where you want the engine lined up. In the G9 I did a clone I had no room for the carb or recoil, so I had to cut it short as I could. The adapter comes with a spacer to put behind it so you can leave it longer. You need to figure this out lining up the belt and checking for clearances around the engine, or find a thread with a similar vanguard in your model cart. If you have lots of room it does not matter as much, however it is harder on the crank bearings to have the shaft longer. Any factory engine will have the clutch very close to the block. But at lower rpm these run nobody seems to have had an issue with it. |
