This was somewhat buried in another thread on a different topic. From my personal experience and the constant questions from everyone on removing governors and getting Honda 24hp's to spin up their RPMS....I think that this deserves its own thread. From Fstg21.... Speaking of the governor, I'm tired of the laggy response and stretched springs. I am working on a custom electronic rev limiter. 5000rpm I have tested it on the bench and it works quite well. It just turns off the coils at the set rpm. So you remove the governor spring and replace it with a solid rod. Throttle response is insane. I am also having a couple of different high lift cams made to test. They should make it even better. You do get a bit of an exhaust backfire if you keep your foot all the way down while bouncing off of it. Fun to scare the neighbors with. Is anyone interested? I can make a few. You may need to snip and crimp a wire or 2.

If you want to spend a lot of time at 5k then yes. The OE valve springs start to float around 5200. 4500 is doable with no other mods.

I have never broken a lifter. Do you mean pushrods? or Rocker arms? Haven't ever seen any of those broken either. I've seen bent pushrods from people adjusting the rockers incorrectly. Or from ridiculously over revving. They are easy to straighten.

Until now, no one has emade an electronic rev limiter to stop you from revving past 5k...and from what I read these things will go forever at 5k. Mess around with 6k a lot and you are asking for troubles.

The lifters in the block? Correct? Did you damage the cam? The only thing that should break these is debris or severe over revving. The pushrods should bend first. I have seen one become dislodged(slide over) because of floating valves. It is the job of the pushrod to keep the lifter tight against the cam. | |
