18hp Opposed Briggs Marathon Swap Thread
Hey guys,This has been a long time coming,The old-faithful 2pg has finally thrown in the towel(I said I would continue to run it until it needed a rebuild). My Dad let me into his stash of goodies,An 18hp Briggs Opposed-Twin(694cc's)I know they are a lower rpm motor, but they make up for it in torque and cubes!Next was a TXT-Clutch,just have to get the CCP-adapter,Then the final piece,A G2-Rear(I know...Yami-parts in an Ez-Go),But hey,Its' a 2-stroke Marathon with a TXT-Body so its' already confused!I measured it up,and the RH axle tube was 4" too short.A post here scored me a replacement LH-tube-Now its' the same width as the Ez-Go axle(Thanks again, Smallblock!!).My Dad went to Florida this week and scored me an axle-shaft,so now I have all the hardware.I cut the Yami-Brackets off, then cut the saddles off an old Marathon-Rear that I had out back.Bolt the brackets to a swing-arm,center the housing and rotate the housing to the best spot,a few tack-welds and I have a mocked-up,bolt-in Yamaha Rear-Axle.Later this week,I'll have everything welded and under the cart, then I can start on the cradle-kit and axle skid-plate/axle-truss.This thing is going to get pounded worse now than it ever has,and I'm making sure it survivesI'll post more pics as I go on.

I have the exact same engine in a Limo I'm building but mine has a tapered shaft from a generator, show how you fix your throttle

When I got my first golf cart it was an EZGO with that same engine in it. I drove it for a few years then yanked it out... Now it's going in my Yamaha ha ha ha. I love that engine it fits so nice and in the EZGO it went everywhere out in the sand, mountains or anything else. Sucker would drive up a wall.

Re: 18hp Opposed Briggs Marathon Swap Thread
Rhino's and Rzr's get pulled out with the opposed. I keep thinking about a v-twin since the opposed is a flat head but the power is close enough and they respond really well to performance parts. Make sure you have the electronic ignition it makes leaps and bounds. Mines built to about 25hp. And NOTHING sounds like an opposed flat head with a good pipe. And I love the room under the seat since they are so much shorter. Do the swap never look back. When it goes out then think of something else. It's so much fun.

I love the sound of "Flatties",I'm figuring on a dual exhaust all the way to the rear with some muffled tips, just to take the edge off. Its' got a MagnaTron in it,and its' splash-lub,so i'm running Klotz Racing Synthetic. It'll sound and smell good!!The part people don't understand about Opposed vs V-Twin is that the Opposed is 694cc its' V-Twin cousin of the same hp is in under 500ccs'! NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!!!!
