Changing camshaft
I am changing the camshaft/gear to a steel gear on my Kawasaki FD620D engine. I want to do it without removing the heads. What will happen if I just pull the cam out?

Re: Changing camshaft
Don't know that engine, but I would think if you compressed the valves and took the push rods out it would release the preassure on the lifters that ride on the cam?

Re: Changing camshaft
I don't know that engine either but if you get the valves closed and back off the rockers you should be good to go. Use a little grease on the push rod shafts when you reassemble to stop them from dropping out or just have the motor on its side. Alternatively, you could just back off the rockers and pull the push rods out from the top. Make sure they go back in the correct tubes though.
Hope that helps. FC |

Re: Changing camshaft
Thanks for the help. I might have been trying to make it harder than it really was.
