Default automotive alternator/honda 18hp?

There are so many threads with the term auto, alternator, swap, etc... that i cant find what i need to know. So im asking for patience with this question please. I plan to swap an 18hp honda vtwin into my 98 gas ezgo and i want to swap a alternator from a vehicle in place of the factory generator/alternator. Is this possible? If it is, what items do i need to think about during this swap other than the brackets?

My Honda GX610 has a 20A charging system.....how much more do you need? It takes several ponies to spin an alternator, especially with a load. Space is always an issue also......

Some came with just a 3A charging system, depending on the original application.

You can run a small 30-40A alternator. Depending on which clutch you use.

Unless you are running a large stereo or alot of lights, it shouldn't impact it too terribly.

The stock clutch will run one just fine.

Any of these would work and can be easily mounted.

I had one on a gx390, not in a cart, but in a trailer.

How about upgrading the 3amp to a higher amp stock Honda unit?Remove the flywheel, and change out the unit.On Briggs its only held in with a few screws. The automotive alternator is gonna draw enough HP to negate a good amount of the power you gained by going to the Honda.Don't believe me,turn on a few things in your car and listen to the rpm drop(and thats at least 125hp running the alternator)

Am I missing something here ? My clubcar runs lights, a stereo and illuminated gauges and switches. It has a standard generator but I have no noticeable loss of power when the accessories are running.

The alternator will not rob much HP unless you put it under heavy load.

DO not use a 1-wire alternator as it runs constantly whether you need it or not.

Once the battery is topped up, the alternator can see that via the voltage sensing wire and turns off till the battery needs a top off.
