Default WHY WON'T IT STOP B/S 16hp HELP

16HP Vtwin 303777 cranks right up runs great the problem is when you go to the off side it still keeps running. Grounded the switch wire to the engine and other switch wire to the kill terminal and still no KILL. Pulled the cover to check wires going to the coils and checked with an ohm meter and no broken wires. Checked the grounds and it should kill the coils but something is overriding and not killing the engine. Like feedback? Do I need a diode or resistor some where in line? 2 days and now I'm lost it's got to be something basic I'm missing when you ground a coil it should kill it but not in my case. Any help would be great!!!

Thanks LOU

Grounding should kill the coil but if I recall correctly there is a diode in each coil wire before they come together, that would keep current from going back to the coil.

Ok SLO thanks for the help yep your right the pig tail that combines both coils DO have diodes in both lines. After removing the shroud and the pig tail I checked both leads and guess what??? both open. So the fix!!! New wire to both coils now you have two independent wires going to the switch. Switch in the off position found the two terminals with continuity one coil wire to each post and BANG!!!! OFF and now don't have to worry about diodes. May help others drove me crazy for 2 days. WELCOME to B/S engines. Thanks for the help I refused to be beat.

Again Thanks to BGW & Slo

Great you got it fixed, yes it must be a feedback thing.

Diode is just a one-way valve for power, at least they are cheap if one wanted to replace them but not a bad idea to eliminate them either.

Sorry for the late post, I know it works now, but did you ground the key switch?
