Default Honda Idle Speed

Running a GX610 (18HP Honda) in my Club Car.

What should the idle speed be for a Honda V-Twin? Right now its idling at 1450-1500 RPMS, was going to mess around with it in the morning, just thought I would check to see what other people are running at.

Thanks!!

To me it does not matter what RPM my GX620 idles at. As long as it fast enough not to die and slow enough not to engage the clutch .

Clutch starts to engage and have been having issues shifting, that's why I'm looking into the idle. Didn't know how low I can run it, will go til it dies and turn it up a little. Hoping for around 1000 or so.

You should be able to idle it down until the comp release starts to go off, then you can adjust the valve lash to change that a little (I assume the honda has comp release on the cam?). Problem lot of people have is you can't change the idle mix to get it to idle nicely that low the epa does not like you. Once I removed the idle jet on a clone I was able to make it idle low as I wanted and it started better and did not pop when slowing down.....after adjusting it properly with a new needle I could turn.

Lawn engines say to idle ~1200rpm usually because that keeps the air cooling flowing as well as more splash oiling, but then they assume you are using it in a lawnmower or similar equipment. And often to run a hydrostat where it should idle faster, or are engaging a belt/etc where it needs to run fast enough to not die when engaged/etc. So I don't see how it really applies to run a CVT in a golf cart. You can preload the secondary spring more (if you have a stock spring that does preload) to get more rpm at light throttle for more cooling/etc if you want that. Otherwise JMZ is correct it does not matter that much where it idles. The clone I did that way because it runs the stock gen with pedal start and it works best that way, it will idle slow with the pedal down just enough to start it and the stock clutch does not kick in. It likely drags some but the cart does not move.
