Default Is it possible for spring in driven clutch to break?

I have an ezgo with a 23hp Vanguard with cam and double valve springs and i heard some popping the other day on acceleration and then i noticed that when i hit the gas it upshifts very quick and with one hand i can squeeze the belt together and the clutch will start to engage with just that much pressure and when i let off it won't disengage all the way

Yes they can break, also if it has tangs they can break off or twist out of the seating holes.

One more thing...remember to replace the three nylon ramps when you fix it. They are like $2 or something and the helix can skip across them if they are severely worn. Actually would be interesting if that was your problem.

There was a cool post online about how to tear it open. I did it and the rope through the middle of it so it didn't fling off the helix was a good tip.

Viper It's just a stock clutch I'm pretty sure it had a torque spring in it when I got it and I'm not sure what degree it is.
