33hp generac into 94 ezgo tuffone
Got my 33hp v-twin apart to do the mods for this install. I see no one has said anything yet so I thought I would start my Build first.. This is not going to be a very quick process so it is going to be drawn out for awhile. But I am hoping to have it done before deer season.
Pictures will follow soon. The side cover will need to be milled or cut from where the generator bolted on. The crank will also need to be turned for a clutch.I am kind of a scrounger to keep my costs down.I'm suppose to go get the side cover milled tonight so I will take a few pictures and post. I was thinking about tryiong to find a clutch off a John deere gator as it would be in the same operating range as this one is, They have a topored shaft also I believe so changing the tapor to fit a gator clutch might be the way to go. I noticed there is no mechanical govener in these things, so I am going to "assume" that the wires running from the electric servo on the propane carb went to the generator to operate as a govener by load |

Re: 33hp generac into 94 ezgo tuffone
I had heard time and again that the Generac was made by or was just like the Vanguard engine, so I made a couple of calls and found out they are not. The performance parts like cam's, rocker arms, push rod's and such won't work. I guess I'll just put mine back completely stock and hope the stock H P will be enough.
If you do find any performance parts please let me know. Thanks LURCH!!!!!!! |

Re: 33hp generac into 94 ezgo tuffone
I'm thinking they are closer to a honda.I knew they weren't briggs as I have a vany and it was no where close. I also have a Big kohler, still no dice. While doing some internet searchs and diferant forums I keep coming up with generac/honda stuff. I know there are speed parts out there as the mud boat guys are hopping up the generacs, that leads me more towards the hond clone thing. If you look at the 2 engines side by side, they seem to be layed out the same with a little sheet metal changes

Re: 33hp generac into 94 ezgo tuffone
While I was searching the different parts I came across some info that may be useful. The GT990 and GT760 share the same bore diameter and wrist pin. The piston for the 760 is High compression and 990 is low compression.....so I believe you can use the GT760 piston for a compression boost. 8.5:1 on the 990 and 9.5:1 on the 760....the 760 piston in the 990 block should net higher than 9.5:1 compression. Both have the same wrist pin diameter. You might have to use the 760 rod along with the piston. Not sure yet.
GT990 piston P/N 0E2950. This is a dished piston. Around $26 GT760 piston P/N 0E2985. This is a flat top piston. Around $23 Haven't tried this of coarse but both have same 90mm bore. GT990 0E1466 PIN PISTON 20mm DIA X 48 LONG 0E2950 PISTON, 8.5:1 90MM DIA (LOW COMP.) 0E3223 CONROD GT760 0E1466 PIN PISTON 20mm DIA X 48 LONG 0E2985 PISTON, 9.5:1 90MM DIA (HIGH COMP.) 0E3222 CONROD Edit: Here is a coated 760 flat top. P/N 0G2751 Around $26 each Also, there are 2 different 990 cranks with the straight shaft. (may be more) One is cast iron, the other is Forged steel. If I remember correctly the forged crank was cheaper. Forged steel 1 1/8th straight keyed crank P/N: 0E4357G $120 ish Theres also flywheel side PTO adapters. Quote:

Re: 33hp generac into 94 ezgo tuffone
Cant get the pictures off my Iphone.I came to a stop till I get some gaskets.I thought I could pull the crank without taking the pistons out,NOT. I have to take at least 1 head off, so I'm getting the gaskets before I tear it apart further.
