Default change pushrods when shaving heads?

Assume that I wanted to take a little off the heads to true them up and raise compression. Would the same amount have to come off the pushrods to keep the rocker geometry?

Most often not, depending on how much you take off. .040" should be safe. with no other changes. When you get closer to .100" the geometery gets wonky.

A better place to get a performance increase is a timing advance key.

Do not spin the engine above 5000rpm without a billet flywheel (which no one makes yet) the iron flywheels tend to grenade.

Is there anywhere in Phoenix that specializes in milling the heads and maybe porting them? Wonder if this is a $100 or $400 expense.

Skimming the heads should be about $30 or so per.

Any good machine shop can do it.

Porting has not been worth it in my experience.

I have had 2 sets of heads ported and saw minimal if any gains.

carts parts plus has them and ARC has billet flywheels but you wont have a charging system b/c the billets dont have the magnet setup on the inside of it ..and yes advance your timing with a advanced key ...but if your planning on turning the engine that fast you might as well get billet rods and new pistons too or your rods COULD fail not gonna say they will but there is a good chance of it happening...hope this helps you brother.

If you take the governor off at least put a rev kit in it, which is typically valve springs or shims and better pushrods/etc. Vanguards were around 100 for that last time I looked. Then you can safely run it pretty hard, as the stock cam dies at high rpm anyway (but well beyond the stock governor rpm).
