Default Parson's Racing and Manton Pushrods install

Will be installing this today on Honda GX670: Parson's Racing roller rockers, springs, valve cover spacers and Manton 1/4" pushrods.

Thanks...I will probably need carb adjusting help at some point. Instructions didn't come on rocker installation but should be straightforward I guess.

PM me your phone number again.

Install went well. If you haven't used a valve spring compressor before the first two springs will take about an hour to come off and the rest will take 2 minutes each to remove and install. I used one from O'Reillys which was great after I bent the center ears together. They ride on the top of the valve retainers and push the outside retainers apart unless modified. The trick to the tool is to be a touch aggressive because I was finding myself not really getting the tool ears down on the bottom of the spring. Really simple after a few tries.

The rockers were so well made that it was a shame to cover them up with the valve covers. The actual makers are RaceSeng and simple instructions and torque specs are on their website.

The only drama was that the valve cover spacers required a bead of RTV silicone against the head. I ran the engine for a few minutes and oil started leaking. The RaceSeng website recommends silicone. I use black silicone but it was still a pain to get them aligned, finger tighten the center screw and wipe off the excess squeezing out. Too bad a simple rubber gasket didn't come with the spacers.

Tomorrow after the silicone dries I will check the lash again and go for a run. I have the TinyTach hooked back up that Fstg21 installed until I can test the custom circuit board that Jeffrun made for me to get the Equuis tach working perfectly.

Adjusted lash just a hair on two rockers. All good.

Turned air/fuel mix screws on top all the way right until they were snug. Backed out 1 1/4 turns. Got idle to 1300 or so. Turned one screw right 1/2 turn and it started to stall. Backed out to original setting. Turned it left 1/2 turn and engine speed picked up. Did it again and it picked up again. I kept this up until turning left didn't do anything. Then turned right again 1/4 turn at a time until speed reduced. Then did the same to the left screw and then adjusted the other idle screw.

Popping went away and it runs very nicely. I am going to check it again tomorrow but I swear I backed the screws out almost 3 turns from snug to get it to run the best. Does that make sense?

I took it for a high speed run and hit 50mph once. Mostly around 48mph. RPMs according to Tiny Tach was 4350. I am going to try a different belt tomorrow because I think the one that I used is maxed out on the Drive clutch but too long so it is not being pulled down in the Driven clutch.

I am only getting 4300 RPMs though. Is that because of the 27" aggressive Dirt Devil tires? How are people getting 5k plus? Or - Do I need to get more gas or air through the high speed jets?

50 MPH is pretty sweet though.

Forgot to post all the info. I can get the idle to 1200-1240. Anything lower than that and it wants to stall. Runs nicely at 1200 though.

Good stuff. 3 turns from snug sounds awfully lean. Do you mean 3 half turns?

Sounds like you may be maxing out the engine. If the belt isn't rising fully, you would see more rpm, not less. Are those 1.2 or 1.3 rockers?(they make both)

I would do a timing advance key next before you pop for a cam. 4 degrees should pep it up.

Does it rev freely, or is there still a bog when you stomp it? Verify that you are truly getting full throttle with the engine off. If not adjust until you do.

4350 is a nice safe place to be. Your drive clutch is capable of more overdrive than your average cart and probably more than the ezgo driven can handle.

4300 RPM w/ 8:1 gears and 27" tires should be 43mph. If you are hitting 48mph you are getting a 10% overdrive.

Time for Disc Brakes

Also if you're idling down at 12-1300 you may have the rockers a little loose. It should idle closer to 1400 and anything below that kicks the compression release.

The high ratio rockers sure make it easy to start don't they?

I drove it into work today. Idle was perfect after it warmed up. Stopping at lights it was around 1400. I am glad that you said idle should be around 1400 because I have been fighting to get it to idle down to something like 1000 and it never will.

I will try the differnt belt and check the turns on the air/fuel screws. I know exactly what you are saying but I swear I turned them out almost 3 full turns. I will carefully count the number of turns on each and report back.

I have the 1.3 intake and exhaust rockers. Now that you say it, yes it does start easier now. It fires right up. I thought it was my brilliant carb adjusting :). It jumps off the line. Absolutely zero bog. I will check for full throttle.

Will the timing advance key give me more RPMs?
