Default Honda V- Twin 24hp Carburetor ID?

How does one go about ID'ing the Carb on this motor? I'm new here and just finding my way around this web site which has some great info. I was able to down load the parts list which was outstanding. Now, if only I can find out which carb is on my motor would be great. It is an need of a complete rebuild. I had pulled it apart once and cleaned it, but the gaskets were finished to start with. I bought this motor used. It runs, but has to have the choke pulled out and it is not making full RPM's.

Thanks!

They should all be the same.

Other than the o-rings on the bottom bowl and the float pin, all other parts can be cleaned and reused.

The gaskets are the same.

Here is a list of what you'll need.

I get my parts from boats.net but any small engine shop should be able to get them.

16221-ZN1-000 Gaskets X3
16010-ZN1-801 the 2 rubber o-rings for the fuel bowl
16011-ZN1-801 Float Valve Pin ( good insurance)

If it won't idle without the choke, you have either an air leak after the carb or a clogged pilot jet. (2 black plastic things under the silver screw and washer on top of the carb. Pop them out and clean them with carb cleaner. (do not use a pick.)

Remove and clean the pilot screws.
There are 2 screws on top that look non-adjustable. heat the aluminum cap with a small torch or a heat gun.(no fuel anywhere near the carb at this point)
Then pull straight up on the cap and it should come off leaving the small screw underneath. If not, heat it more. Do not bend it, it will break off. Then you have to buy another.

Remove the screws and clean out the holes with carb cleaner. When you put the screws back in turn them in till snug, then out 1 1/4 turns.

Reassemble everything and start the engine, warm it up. (5 minutes of idling)

Once warm, turn each screw 1/8 turn in or out until you achieve the highest/smoothest audible idle. Usually between 1 and 1 1/2 turns out from snug.

You can replace the caps or just put a dab of silicone on them to keep them in place and allow for future cleaning.

Honda's require choke to start nearly every time because of the way the governor works. Once running and warm it shouldn't be required.

Also while you have it apart, verify that the fuel shut-off solenoid in the fuel bowl is moving freely and has its spring intact. It's sole purpose is to stop the engine from backfiring when it is shut down at high rpm. (not likely in a cart application) My recommendation is to just remove the small valve and spring, as they are known to fail (stick shut) at the most inopportune times. The engine will run just fine without it.

This video details the teardown and cleaning. the carb doesn't look exactly the same, but it is nearly identical internally.

If yours looks significantly different, like the jets come out the side of the fuel bowl under bolts, PM and I'll help you find parts, but you can just replace it with the newer part for under $100.

Outstanding info. Man, I am very greatful. I am going to try and get these parts local tomorrow. The place that sells the parts are not open today. I hope by Wensday, I have this sucker running right. The engine is mounted on a Godevil/boat. I'm looking forward to using it before next weekend to go catch some frogs.

Also, I just tried it, and a soldering iron is the best tool for removing the non-adjustable screw caps. Safer than a torch.

OK, I pulled the Carb. It is a Mikki Carb. No numbers or any other ID on it. I did pull it apart and soaked it and cleaned all ports. I did run into one problem. Those two silver caps. After removing them, there was nothing under them. Was there suppost to be something under?

Anyway, I'm putting it back together now, but rain has come. I will try it out later once the rain stops.

Thanks again for the info.

Forgot. One other question. Those silver caps again. Would it be good to put a little Lockitie on and around were they seat?

Thanks.

If there was nothing under the caps, then you broke off the screws.

Didn't get them hot enough. They are designed to break if you mess with them.

There was a small spring there correct?

They shouldn't move on their own, so if it runs well, leave it.

If you need to replace them later use a small screw extractor. It's just a small brass screw. It should come right out.

Glad to hear you got it going.

There was nothing. No place for a screw. Just three pin holes that lead to the carb throat.

Yes, same ports. I would have to rip everything apart to get a picture.
