Default idle without a tach?

I just put a 18 hp kit in my ez go.The cart creeps at first but after a ride around the yard I can barely stop it.Sound like the idle is a little high, but it does go back to the stop. Can I lower the idle or is it an issue with oiling? When I shut off the cart I see the engine clutch release.Everything is new. Thanks

Nope,

You can lower the idle there is an idle stop screw on the carburetor.

What clutch are you using?

If it is the original un modified one, you won't get the idle low enough.

You'll need a different clutch or a clutch spring.

Sounds like the idle or the belt is too tight. You can lower the idle with no problems. Back the screw out until it almost stalls then screw in until it smooths out.

Your new belt will be sticky for a bit, that can cause it. Slow the idle way down if it will not idle very slow you can try enlarging the valve lash on the valve that does the compression release. Or valves if a twin. Look at the rockers you will see them bump up just a little right before TDC when you turn it by hand that is the comp release it only works at low rpm. When your idle gets way slow you will hear it kick in...if that is the issue.
