Kohler 15 in my Deere
This engine has smoked off and on for awhile--sometimes real bad, sometimes hardly at all. Also running real rough and loss of power.
Removed the valve cover and the exhaust rocker looked out of alignment--push rod not in the center of the rocker and was loose enough to rotate it to remove the push rod. It has hydraulic lifters--no adjustment. I pulled the head and this is what I've got. Head gasket is toast. The pictures tell the story. Where do I go from here? Lotsa carbon on the valves. Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a spring compressor. |

Re: Kohler 15 in my Deere
It cleaned up pretty good--The carbon was thick on the exhaust valve. I'm thinking I should just go ahead and disassemble it.
Don't know why that rocker was so loose. Hoping that caused all this trouble. |

Replaced the head gasket--didn't remove the valves, just made sure the rocker retaining bolts were tight. Runs like a champ
