Quiet engine
I'm using a g9 rear end on my project. I used a predator 420 engine. The engine it self makes a lot of noise. Even with large muffler did not help. Would a honda gx390 be any quieter. Or what other engine would be quiet.
Thanks Ed |

Re: Quiet engine
Clone is a copy of a honda, it may be noisier but I would think it similar. Is it engine noise or exhaust? It is hard to find a muffler that is actually quiet, and you need to have a tail pipe on most mufflers to help them work....except all in one mufflers like come on small engines or golf carts/etc. Some people say the valvetrain or fan is noisy but I have not had that with the carolstream I put in. The muffler is not real quiet on that about like a lawnmower, but its not loud either. It has a turbo car muffler on it and seems to be louder at idle actually.

Re: Quiet engine
It was and electric Gem car I took out the electric motor. Tired of battery charging. I took the Predator 420 off today and put a honda gx390 much quieter.

Re: Quiet engine
The clones are made by like 6 different places, they must differ because the one I did does not seem to be that loud above the stock engine. But I don't have a honda to compare it with. Others have made this same complaint. Really if you can find a quiet exhaust you should only hear the fan going. I put a 45hp diesel muffler on a 8hp B&S flatty generator once and it was amazingly quiet just the whir of the fan was all you heard. Wish I had that muffler now lol.

Re: Quiet engine
I think the clones are made a little lighter in the casting dept and probably a lesser quailty of aluminm to boot so they are noisier. I know a gx200 honda is alot quieter than the same size clone engine by a good bit

Re: Quiet engine
I was driving a 420 cart around and all I can hear is a little vavletrain clicking. It has a car muffler that is sort of quiet but louder than stock cart. However it comes out the back, the intake is piped to the front suspension area.
