comet duster clutch and g9 rear end slip
I put a g9 rear end in a gem cart. The gem is probably heaver than a golf cart. I took all the electronics out and batteries. Now here is my problem I am using a gx390 Honda with a comet duster 94c clutch. I need help with clutch. I know the weights and spring needs change. The clutch dose not disengages unless engine is ready to die. Also the clutch does not grab the belt tight enough. It never makes the governor raise it takes forever to get to top speed. Should I get a stock clutch or work with comet.

Re: comet duster clutch and g9 rear end slip
Thanks for the kind words Dave, You are correct. The 94C was a OK sled clutch for a 2 stroke but it really sucks as a clutch for a big 4 stroke like a v-twin. It just shifts WAY to slow. Or CV Tech 06 or the Team 08 clutch would be a awesome choice.

Re: comet duster clutch and g9 rear end slip
The belt-length and width will affect shifting and creeping as well, too short/tight it won't sit still or shift without killing the motor.I agree about the clutch,If its' set for a 2-cycle,its' way off on set-up.Hope this helps.

Re: comet duster clutch and g9 rear end slip
Most better sled clutches will never adjust to <3K rpm engagement, that is why most can't use them on carts. You should set that clutch to around 1500rpm engagement and shift at just over 3K, or whatever is always below your governor speed. If a clutch is not setup, you have to set it up no matter the brand. Once done you don't have to mess with it. So find a chart to set it that rpm and get it like you want, it should work well though yes they are an old clutch and not perfect. Then again most all clutches are copies of comet/salisbury/yamaha clutches, etc. 94c can take a lot of power they were used on sleds with well over 50hp, though higher rpm they can take more. Engage at 4-5K and shift at 7K or more is very common on faster old sleds. Some shift at 10K.
Most all these clutches were originally for 2 strokes that rev high. For a lawn type engine like Bigblock says you need shift in at lower rpm |
