Gx610 remove charging system
I am going to hook this up like a stock cart. Can I just unplug the big rectifier box and will egine still run. Or should I remove flywheel and remove coils too.

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
You mean use the cart generator on a new engine? I did that with my clone that has its own ignition. Simply unplug the cart ignition stuff but leave the gen. Then use a relay off the cart wiring to kill or power the new engine's ignition. The relay and plug are cheap on amazon.

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
Yes I understand that but this engine has a 4"x4" rectifier regulator plug into several wires. I was wondering if I could unplug and still run.

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
stock cart starter may not have enough power to crank the engine.
The honda system should have 20amps of power. Only difference is key start vs. pedal start. I prefer key start. It will run without the regulator. Is it a noise issue? |

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
I have already mounted the engine and install golf cart generator. My wife didn't like the other way. With the motor having compression release wont the stock generator be enough. Also does the gas solenoid close the fuel when power is supplied or open.

open on 12v+. Normally closed.
Remove it, or it will fail without warning. The Ethanol in the fuel corrodes the plunger. Just unscrew it, remove the plunger and spring and thread back in. done. |

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
On the clone I did I hooked up the charger, though its only 3A. So it charges both from clone and the gen. It starts from the gen. It has a mag ignition you ground to kill it and the cart had a 12v powered ignition, so I put a relay on the cart coil (12v) wire that is normally closed to kill the clone unless the pedal is depressed to power the relay...then it runs. The gen cranks like it normally would the wiring for that is all stock. It depends on how the cart and new engine ignitions work; if they need 12v or are magneto and need to ground to kill (and need no power to run like most small engines and the clone). Some carts are mag too and you would not need to change that just use the cart wiring that grounds it to kill it.
I don't know if there is an issue using both charging systems, that cart seems to work fine. The clone I am putting in now is recoil start and has no charging. Usually the gen has small wires out the side for charging seems like you could disconnect that if you wanted to use only the engine charging, if it is larger and regulated. Most gen are 15A charging or the yamaha is anyway. |

Re: Gx610 remove charging system
The gen usually can start the v-twins because they have comp release and each cylinder is not larger than the single cylinder most carts have. You can run into problems, sometimes you have to adjust the valve lash on engines with comp release to make it work more (make it less on the release valve). If you run a light flywheel it will turn over harder, higher compression from cut heads and camshafts can make it turn over differently. Sometimes you can put larger gauge battery cables on the starter to get a little more power out of them.
