How about dual stock mufflers?
Working out the exhaust on my 420cc clone in a G9, I can get two stock G9 mufflers to put on it. It would take some modding of them with that huge tailpipe and all hanging down, plus I would have to make a mount, plus I would have to tee them together some how.
What do you think would it work and flow enough power, stock is 9.4hp or whatever, this is 15hp with a milled an ported head, advanced timing and more valve spring. I want to keep it quiet, near stock would be ideal. Actually later I would like to figure out how to put a plug or valve on it to loud it up at times, but I ride around houses at night and can't be loud there or they get hot at me (or anyone). Another option is I emailed a muffler company and they recommended a smaller car muffler as quiet, but still a 12" body muffler iirc. Was walker: 18425 which is 1 5/8 inlet and outlet 4 1/4 x 8 13/16 oval body 16 inches on the shell and 20 inches on the overall length. |

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
The only way a see a stock G9 muffler working is by taking some of the baffles out and adding a larger tail pipe. And there is no such thing as a small car muffler when you are putting it on a golf cart

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
I figure it works for 9hp so a pair might be ok for 15hp, but they would be a pain to put on so thinking I will try a car muffler first.

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
those walker quiet flow mufflers are pretty quiet on cars. lol. the name doesn't lie.
id consider the dual stock muffler idea. creating a Y section is the only tricky part for instance, ive run single 3" on a 360hp ls1 then went to dual 2.25" for better ground clearance not sure what the inlet/exhaust diameters are for this exact application, i think stock cart exhaust inlet is around 1"? |

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
Yes the G9 inlet is about 1", but the outlet is more like .5" inside diameter and a long folded pipe. Tailpipes make mufflers work a lot better far as noise. It would be harder to install the Y and make those pair work. I'm waiting for the guy to measure his car muffler and see how large it is.
I saw the quiet flow, they are not cheap either but could be the ticket I'll investigate more. I looked and found walker 22266 that is not a bad deal 1.5" pipe and 15" long case for a honda its only $30. |

Ha, I just ordered that quiet flow. We will see how quiet they are on carts. I plan to get a tailpipe made once its on there and I can figure out what I need to do.

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
I tried the walker on my v-twin honda, was'nt all that quiet and sounded more like lawn mower. Sits in the corner of the shop collecting dust now. hope it works better for you.

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
LOL! Oh crap ha ha. Well too late now I will try it for $30. Not going to rate it until I get a tailpipe on it though that really helps a lot with car mufflers. The other clone has a turbo car muffler it is sort of lawnmower sounding, pretty deep thumpy sound though like a kohler. Its about same loudness as a lawnmower, same or less than utvs though.
I'd really like to have a valve on this for loud and quiet, but not finding anything cheap that would work. Thought about modding a turbo wastegate but most are cast and can't weld on them reliably. Problem is whatever you use it can't leak. Just for fun anyway. I also wonder how OE these mufflers are, for example most Fords are really quiet while GM cars are not as much they leave some rasp out the exhaust. |

Re: How about dual stock mufflers?
You want a old tractor muffler the flow good and quite. And still provide the required back pressure. The inlets and outlets are small so it doesn't take much to fab up. They can be very reasonable too. And to remote mount it you can use high temp marine grade exhaust flex hose. Its like a rubber hose they use to expel exhaust gasses from a engine room in a ship. It can take some heat. Just type in tractor mufflers and there are some fairly small ones.
