Re: machine work on a briggs
I had my head ported and cut for a clone, but not got it running in the cart yet. But, pretty typical thing to do. The guy at the shop that did it does a local team of lawnmower racers.

Re: machine work on a briggs
I know i want my heads ported and polished. I also want the head snd block cut for higher compression. Been thinking about boring the block also.

Re: machine work on a briggs
I would drop a cam in it, but find out if you need rods and flywheels/etc to go with the cam. Make sure you get the right cam for your use. Cutting the head and porting will always help some, porting helps more with a cam that has higher flow. I didn't have this one ported that much they blended the pocket because the back of the valve seats had huge edges on them, then the short radius was like a 90 corner they took out. The rest they just blended and cleaned up. I'll find out what that and a 4 degree timing advance and dual springs does for now....along with high flow exhaust and airbox. I plan on a larger/better carb sometime soon have to make an intake first.

Re: machine work on a briggs
I already have the performance cam with rev kit and advanced timing key. Its a very peppy motor but i want more. I know that cutting the heads and having the pistons cut flat will raise the compression, but what about running the longer arc rods. Also, if i bore the block, how much do i have it bored. Im also going to switch over to the two barrel intake but im not sure if i want to run the two barrel carb or run a makuni.

Re: machine work on a briggs
If i can find a bigger block, then im just going to build one nasty motor and i mean NASTY if that was to happen then ill just leave my motor alone then sell it once the new motor is done. I have more ideas and wants than time and money.
