Question Need parts list to rebuild 18HP B&S Vanguard

What exactly do I need to get to rebuild my Vanguard 18HP. I have seen kits on internet, but I may need rods too. Just wondering what all is needed so start to see if it is cost effective to rebuild or replace with a new engine. New engine is about $1200.

Dano just my opinion, not that I am an expert. A stock rebuild can be done if all your hard parts are good for 2-300. If you start throwing speed parts (like some itiot I know) then you will have that $1200 in parts and pieces. Now there is a line that can be made but that idiot has the attitude "well if I'm doin this, then I need to do that. That's where I lost track of what I spent, but it's better drinkin beer uh oh building a motor on your own. But keep in mind that you will have a beast of a motor for that kind of cash. Ok that was 3 cents..

Lmao! That's awesome. Thanks. I am not sure exactly what is wrong yet. The spark plug was fried and I have some metal inside engine from I don't know what. I'm gonna start tearing it down and see. Just didn't want any surprises.

It could be a broken ring to a broken/seized rod i read your other posts sounds like it got hot and seized the rods to the crank seen it many times at the track AND from me hammering the crap out of one too...lol if thats the case then inspect your crank when you get it out hit it with some light sandpaper (320-400 grit) an clean it up an get some new rods/rings if the cylinders and walls look good scuff em up lightly w/ the same grit sandpaper clean it up and lube the cylider walls and re-assemble....
