Default shocks at an angle?

so im doing my big block build and i have a swing arm on the back and i m using atv shocks as my suspension and i wanted to know if when i weld my shock mounting brackets if my shocks have to be at an angle or straight up and down? so that when they compress that it doesn't tweak the shock and stuff

Laying a shock over at any angle reduces it's ability.

what are you doing with your cart? Lifted and off road or a drift machine like in our avatar pic? If its lifted, i would suggest that you put the tops closer to the center like this as viewed from the rear / \

If its an on road drift machine then i would want them straight up and down and also mounted toward the rear of the axle instead of over or in front.

Maybe I should have said capacity. If a shock is rated at 100 pounds and you lay it over the capacity is reduced. The more you lay it over the more the capacity is reduced.
Listen to slopony here, sounds like he knows something about suspensions.

its on a swing arm. there is a live axle, im talking about if the shocks have to be at an angle tward the front of the car or tward the rear. not side to side. i think ive got it though

If this is a swing arm that does not articulate then I would mount the shocks as close to vertical as possible. This will give you the most "capacity" as Scotty said, which will be more stiff and able to carry more weight.

If you lay the shock forward like on an atv, there will be more leverage applied to the shock and it will be softer.

If you have a swing arm that will articulate, you will want the shocks tilting inward at the top toward the middle. This will give more resistance when the swing arm is articulating from side to side, meaning one side up, one side down. EZGO carts have this type of swing arm where the front is attached at one point with a ball joint type mount, which allows the articulation.

G2/G9 are that way I think G1 also. Its just a matter of how high you want the cart to lift and how stiff you want it. When I made my lift I put a row of holes so I could move the top of the shock forward a little or back to standing straight up. They are all the way back straight up now because I hauled dirt and wood in the dump box and needed it to be hard. Well I just took the box off this summer and put a clone engine in. Riding it around breaking it in and it rides like a lumber truck lol. It also depends on how stiff the shock is you use, mine are stock. I would say mock it up and try it to find out, its near impossible to figure out how X shock is going to work. People here only recommend certain shocks because they tried them and they work ok....it is hit and miss. Also I don't know how many people move the mount for the shocks or just try them in the stock holes.

When you stand the shock up it will be stiffer (relatively), and also have less travel.
