Default big block CLUBCAR engine mount discussion

Ok, so i have the motor, and the cart, and i want to start gathering parts for the swap.

What do people use for a 07 era clubcar motor mount? I have an 18hp Vanguard.

My thought was to get another stock "motor plate" and redrill / modify it for the big block swap.

Is there a better way? am i missing some thing?

I am NOT going to spend $1,000+ dollars on buying a kit minus the motor, and i will not spend that much on the entire swap with the motor doing it my self.

I have a lot of metal fab experience, and tools at my home.

Im looking for any info to make it easier, and i have tried searching and just don't seem to type in the correct terms to find what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any help!

Pretty simple for a fabricator, get a primary clutch you need installed, line up the belt to the secondary and build the mount.

Few years back I had stripped the cart completely down and took the frame to a welder since I did not have a aluminum welder, and then they just welded a thick square aluminum plate to the frame with few u bolts for extra support and lined up the motor/belt ect...... If u decide to go a diff route ill buy the 18hp from u since I need one lol good luck

I did a BB conversion on my 92ish CC Carryall. I know the engine carrier is totally different for your 07. The mounting plate for my buggy was perfectly flat. Yours is stamped I think. I was able to set the motor, line up the clutches and mark the corners of the engine base on the plate. Then I flipped the motor over and transposed the measurements to the plate. Drilled and slotted the plate.

Tip. Make sure you get the clutches and belt you intend to use and install them for your mockup. The biggest problem I had by far was the new drive clutch would not clear the frame with everything lined up. Since everything centers off the driven clutch/transaxle assembly, I had to cut the spring perches off my axle and move the axle over 1 inch. This introduced issues with the stock brake actuator levers. I had to extend them by about 3 inches to make things work properly.

Just an FYI and you may already know this...It's expensive to do the conversion to a bone stock cart. Even when you do all the work yourself. If it's already lifted then you are halfway there. Apart from the motor, the clutches are probably the 2nd most expensive part of the build. It's all well worth it in the end. You just have to be a patient, methodical person. I bet I have at least $1800 into my conversion including the engine and I paid $600 for it I think.

Good luck and post some pics of your build.

Thanks Kim!

I do already have a 6" lift installed. I will probably end up reinforcing the outside of the frame and notching the inside to clear the drive clutch. I'm definitely looking to use the stock motor plate, or possibly get an older style one like yours if it makes mounting easier.

I'll keep the post running as I start fab. I'm going to pull the motor out of the lawn tractor today. I got the rig for free, and I'm pretty sure the motor just needs new rings and to be cleaned up.

I just completed an engine upgrade on an '04 DS 290 to a 23 HP Vanguard. I believe the '07 has basically the same motor mount as my '04. I am willing to share some info if you want to do it PM.

I'm a sorta newbie myself. Sometimes you can miss the true intent of what someone is posting. Two wrongs don't make a right. Let's all count to 10 and get along. My two cents worth. This site has been extremely helpful and informative to me. Maybe it's my turn to share what I learned from the engine upgrade.
