Default CVTech06 Clutch Tuning

Been trying to figure out how to tune the engagement speed of my CVTech06 driven clutch that I got from CPP back in the spring. The clutch engages too low for the idle speed on my Honda GX610 (1450 RPMs) and I want to figure out how to raise this. I have emailed Tom @ CPP numerous times and have got no response so I am turning here.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

The drive clutch not the driven correct?

Do you have a tach? Some gx610's had a 1600rpm factory idle speed. Check and make sure.

You can also turn the idle down just a bit.

You can also remove just a small bit out the weight from the plastic pucks in the clutch.

There is a small screw on cover on each puck and a stack of steel weights under it.

If you remove weight it may not close fully at top speed.

Tom has always been super responsive. Maybe your e-mails are ending up in spam. Give CPP a direct phone call and you should be able to get your answer.

Yea, drive clutch... my bad.

Yes I have a tach and have the idle as low as the governor will let me. I want to keep the governor as this is a farm cart used by lots of people and want to protect the engine.

Sounds like a catch 22, if I remove weight and get it not to engage at idle it screws me at top end... crap. Might try and remove some weight this weekend and see how that works.

I wondered about the email too. I had great response and communication multiple times before my order, but since I got my parts I have got no response to multiple emails with various questions.

That's strange about no email reply's. Just call Tom, he's the best and I'm shure he will have an awnser for you. Heck, he stayed on the phone when I was changing to higher rate springs on my Comet 780 primary clutch

If it has one large spring in the clutch you can shim it longer for higher engagement, if its the standard comet design like that. Try a 1/8" spacer behind the spring just cut some pvc pipe or find a washer that fits/etc. On a sled it gives about 500rpm more but carts have weaker springs usually not that much change. Or you can buy a longer spring if you can find one. The rate of the spring changes the shift rpm at wot, stiffer is higher, and that is balanced by how heavy the weights are.

Thanks for the idea. I will try and get time this weekend to open it up and see what it looks like inside and start tinkering around.

I should have said the length of the spring changes engagement, that is why shimming it longer will raise engagement. Its like preload on (against actually) the clutch shifting in when you start to go.

Should start another thread, but clutch shifting issues are typically adjustment of the cables or if you have it running then the belt is dragging on the clutch too much. This is an issue with most all carts because the trans is not made to shift while engine is running, it goes into neutral and starts to spin very easily. So you need a clutch that is all the way open and/or has a roller in the bottom and then shift quickly.
