Briggs 23 Upgrades or Honda GX690
I think this is the right place to ask for technical info.
I have a few questions: I am looking at purchasing a Briggs vanguard 23hp or a Honda GX690. If I used the Briggs I would have the new cam and rev kit installed and I believe that would uprate it to about 28hp? Is that gross or net power? I need the revs to be between 4200 and 4500 rpm? Does the rev kit do that? Or are there performance upgrades for the new Honda GX690? Thanks! Nate |

Go with the Briggs. I have a Honda GX620, I love it but if you're looking to tweak it beyond the standard rev kit and timing advance kit, you'll be better off with the Briggs as there are more options for them.
My rev kit for the Honda gets me about 5500 rpm. |

What will a rev and timing kit do power wise for the GX690?

Does the rev kit allow you to set the max rpm?

No it just makes it safer to run higher r's. I have a tach and keep it under 55 to 5700.

Ok, great. I hate to keep asking so many questions, but is the rev kit universal or just for the briggs 23?
I think the new Honda GX690 governor is un changeable? |

Re: Briggs 23 Upgrades or Honda GX690
Ok, thanks, I sent him an email and he replied already. Wow, fast. He says a Hi performance cam and rev kit will make the Briggs 28 hp. That's very very tempting. O fcourse doing that puts me in another price bracket and makes the stock Kohler Command 27 an equally attractive option. Am I the only one who has a hard time choosing an engine?
