Default 18hp in CC

Hello All looking for some help here. I have just installed a 18hp that was given to me in exchange for my stock cart. I have installed it with the stock clutch and driven pulley. I did cut the fingers off of the driven clutch spring to help allow the clutch to spread for top end speed. Now for the top end speed I am getting 10 to 11 MPH out of it. Will the high speed gears get me that much more top end and will it affect the low end very much? I am running a 6" lift and 22X10X10 tires on it. Any help would be appreciated because I am debating between the 8:1 or 6:1 gears. I run the cart through the woods on trails and through the creeks.

something is wrong.. if it spins that clutch and the belt is actually grabbing, it should go faster than that, easily..

You have something in your clutches not working right, or the belt is not engaging correctly..
