Re: Mild Cam
Many of the cams raise rpm, that is how you get more power from the same size engine. So you may have to upgrade parts like rods and flywheels and setup the clutch to run higher rpm shifts. So it depends on the cam a lot. But its about the only way to get more power you can feel. You can put a header and larger carb on, cut the head and port it a little, etc and on an on and get a few gains....but you have to drop a cam in to really wake them up. Much the same as a car engine, unless it is forced induction.

Re: Mild Cam
A performance camshaft is the SINGLE biggest increase in seat of the pants and actual power gains you can get aside from a power adder.
If you are serious about making power, a camshaft swap would be my FIRST investment. Along with supporting mods of course. These engines are NOT designed to be used for what we are using them for, therefore in order to maximize the displacement you have, you must modify them for your intended application. The only way to do that is with a cam and carburator. |

Re: Mild Cam
How is the 18 hp carb compared to the 16 hp? Do you still get the bog at mid range?
