16HP V-TWIN in a 99 G16
hey i got a 1999 g16 stock as of now
i got a 16 hp VANGAURD motor that was in a generator the output shaft on the v-twin is a taper but it starts at 3/4" and then gets bigger from there for about 3" then theres about 3/8" the full shaft size before it goes in to the crank case my question is what clutch can i use on this motor if any or can i get the crank shaft machined to say a 3"x1" keyed shaft or ??? i know i don't really wanna use stock yamaha clutch as the no primary spring or what ever makes it roll when its idling but i know the ezgo factory clutches work on a 1" keyed shaft ill try and have picts tonight any input? |

I think someone on here had one machined down to a normal 30:1 taper. You can get replacement GC clutches (with springs) for those or other clutches with the taper. IIRC the polaris ATV use that taper, a whole lot of sleds do. If you have room you can machine it to a 1' but it may be more work to put a keyway in it. Some have also machined an adapter to fit on it. Others have replaced the crank.

Re: 16HP V-TWIN in a 99 G16
i got bored today and just put it in. i tracked down a ezgo clutch that had a 3/4" to 1 1/8" taper and i just used a grinder until it was close to the same then with the motor running i used a file to get it just right. well right enough.
tomorrow i will be trying to get factory rear shocks to allow for the seat clearance and it will lift the cart about 2" in the rear witch is fine because I've got 22" atv tires i wanna weld the rear end like i did on my g2 would it be the same process? |

Your going to love your BigBlock! But, you need to work on your secondary clutch, looks like the snap ring that holds the spring seat away from the transaxle case has slipped out of the groove on the input shaft (it's very comon). No worries, there is a special collar/spacer to correct the problem. Good luck on your build

yea i haven't really drove it to hard yet i was busy installing an amp and a few speakers and ran a 4wire trailer harness because the hole stereo is all mounted on the seat/bag mount for easy removal. 3 to power the amp and 1 for a reverse light to utilize the stock micro switch to kick over a 12v relay then to a flood light, finished the exhaust off with a 1" threaded can muffler & started the front window mount, ran all new wire to the ignition w/ heat shrunk connections so u do everything from the dash i.e. start stop and the amp turns on and off with the key too. i did take it for a little test run today went threw about a foot of snow up a trail that the cart could badly make it up stock when its dry so defiantly better
new removable exhaust window mount 4pin trailer harness speaker and amp |

i also got a newer style ezgo and window roof that i may try and retrofit on to it tomorrow, the rear shocks are the old fronts so I'm gonna try and get another set of rears tomorrow or many just a hole new cart. i found 2 g16's yesterday in my travels of going threw town looking at the orchards so I'm also going to go try and get another stockie because my stock motor still runs so i could drop it in to a rolling g16 and have one for a friend

Re: 16HP V-TWIN in a 99 G16
so i got another g16 i think today and a old g1 i put my old motor in the new cart i got and it fired right up it also has a roof and stuff so i raided a few things offf that. the g1 i got for my buddy funny enough the guy sold us the g1 and prob never thought it would run again but we had ann 3 carts up and running in under 4 hours took them all out for a test drive and everything went super well all carts war able to run and drive pretty well
urban carting one question i have is the 16vtwin i put in my g16 if anything is touching the frame it shuts the motor off how do i get rid of this grounding problem like my amp is on a piece of wood so nothings touching any metal anywhere or else the motor gets no spark |

Nice Build. For your shut-down issue...Is the kill-wire touching metal, and then finding a ground when you jump across the frame?Maybe a terminal is spun around,or a wire is bare.Hope this helps.
