Re: can you make a vert. to hor. shaft?
I know everyone says no, But I have heard of guys doing it, by putting horizontal rods in them. But I would think you would have a nitemare mounting and figureing out your oil fill hole and dipstick. Then you would need to do something with the carb as it would be on it's side. Really not worth the trouble and time, and by the time you got done ,you would probably have more money in it than what you could pickup a horizonal engine for. Anything can be done, but is it really worth the trouble. :)

Re: can you make a vert. to hor. shaft?
This question wasn't asked...Is it a 22hp VanGuard V-Twin,or a 22hp InTec Opposed-Twin?The Opposed can be easily switched,it takes about 10 parts. The V-Twins are another story. The Oppy is so simple it could be switched in an hour if you had all the parts on the table in front of you.The main difference in Vertical/Horizontal is Balance,Opposed are "self-balancing",V-Twins are balanced by the Flywheel as well as the internals. It can be done on a V-Twin,but the number of parts needed is almost a complete engine, which can be bought in good condition used in Horizontal-configuration for around $200-$300 if you do some hunting.

Re: can you make a vert. to hor. shaft?
I don't know about changing the vertical to a horizontal, but a friend of mine used a vertical shaft engine with a right angle drive gearbox to power a cart he made. He got the gearbox off a garden tractor at the junkyard. If you have any junkyards near you it may be worth your time to look! He got it for $20. The engine has a belt to the box, then a clutch and belt to the rear axle. I can't post pics as he's moved to Colorado, but I'll try to contact him and maybe he can send me some! It was a neat and compact installation too!
