Default 22hp Subaru Transaxle Issues

I have a '97 CC with a Subaru EH650 22hp motor installed. Bought it this way and whoever installed it did a pretty rough job. I tightied up several things and made improvements where needed to get it driveable. I'm having transaxle issues and would like to get your feedback on the best way to go about fixing this permanantly and correctly. The motor is ccw and the stock transaxle clutch was toast when I got it. I replaced it with a big block driven clutch from cartpartsplus. Does anyone know what engine clutch I have? Is it the stock clutch? If so, any clutch recommendations for my set up? I'm still learning all this stuff....

The cart has had issues popping out of reverse since I've had it (short while) and now the new fancy driven big block clutch I put on keeps backing the retaining bolt out of the shaft a couple turns and then the clutch seems to lose engagement and some maybe a grinding noise. The bolt even backs out with blue loctite applied. Somethings not right. It shouldn't lose engagement by the bolt backing out two turns??? What do I know... The transaxle is a cw rotation and I'm running ccw. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I'm driving on the reverse gear in forward and the forward gear when in reverse. Which means I'm loosing some mph forward.

I do fabrication and build all kinds of custom stuff, motor rebuilds, etc so I'm no strager to wrenching and prefer custom stuff. The custom header and exhaust is one of my touches That said I want to figure out what my best options are to fix these issues. It seems if I keep this tansaxle I'll always have the issue of driving forward on the reverse gear. I'm not that wild about it and want to know if there's an ideal transaxle for my setup. I'd also like to get ahold of one of those limited slip setups. I have a big trip coming up in 2 1/2 weeks so figuring this out is a bit time sensitive. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The transaxle wasn't designed to turn ccw. The club car motors of that era turned cw.
The driven clutch also looks like it is hitting the trans casing.
My buddy has a club car with a similar setup, and it works great.
Make sure the secondary clutch is free of the trans case, and maybe check the detents on the shift lever in the trans.
I have no idea why the bolt is backing out. Is the shaft splined?

No it's keyed. It's been working fine for a few months. Just all of a sudden the bolt backed out and I loose engagement and it happens very easily now. I'm starting to pull it apart as we speak

Sounds like there's a problem with the key.

Good call. The key was missing. I still would like to figure out the drive clutch. Any idea what clutch I have? The Subaru has a 1.5" shaft and someone made an adapter that looks like it goes to a 1 1/8 tapered shaft possibly. Does that sound right? 1 1/8 tapered? What about a better clutch to use? The engagement feels weird. Theres a delay between the two clutches responding. When the second responds, the cart launches.

Looks like a stock golf cart clutch, except for the adapter. The stock one would be tapered.
Stock cart clutches can take alot of abuse. What exactly is going on with the primary and secondary that you don't like?

There's a delay between the two engaging. Feels like the primary engages, cart takes off, there's a delay, then the cart launches and acceleration is normal. I'm wondering if the drive clutch engages too early for the new big block clutch, causing the delay. The old secondary clutch was replaced because it looked like the different rotation ate it up. Knurled aluminum where the pads engage. So I upgraded to the big block secondary. It seemed to respond this way before also but I'm not 100%. The cart was new to me and was barley drivable. Leaving the primary left to address. If the secondary was beat up from the big block wouldn't the primary be stressed too? Thanks for the time by the way.

You should have more than enough power. Either the secondary clutch spring is too stiff, or the primary is too soft. Putting a stiffer primary spring in will cause it to engage at a higher rpm, and possibly jerky launches. Softening the secondary will cause it to upshift sooner. What is the secondary clutch brand and is it adjustable?

Sounds like my best bet is to get a softer secondary clutch spring. I can't say for sure that it's adjustable as I don't know. I assume so though. I got it from here http://www.cartpartsplus.com/product...=792#full_desc
