Nice thanks for the reply so its a go also o have a comet duster on the shelf of my barn I ran the numbers on it And came up with its a comet 94c with a 30mm bore and its tapers do these work well on the vanguards with the tapered clutch adapter

The 2-bbl carb from the vertical motor is the only piece that will work on your 16hp Vanguard. You'll need a 2-bbl intake from a 20hp horizontal Vanguard. It will bolt right on to your 16hp. A 2-bbl intake from a 23hp horizontal engine will not fit a 16hp. You will also need a 90° adapter and isolator between the intake and the carb. Look for the carb with the black emulsion tube inside rather than the white one. That way you can remove the main jet and install an adjustable needle. A cam from a 23hp horizontal Vanguard will fit the 16hp motor and give you about another 500 usable rpms. I run a remote oil filter on mine which helps with the cooling.

I have a 94c Duster on mine but it is a 1" straight shaft. It works very well with this motor. Make sure the tapers are the same.

The only motor I know of that uses the 2-bbl intake that fits the 16hp is the 20hp horizontal Vanguard. Not all 20hp motors used a 2-bbl carb. You can find them used, and can still buy them new. I bought the 90° adapter new.
