Default 13 HP Clone in a 1999 TXT

While it’s been a bit of a project shoehorning the engine in and sourcing a belt without lifting the cart, but now that its almost done I thought I would post a few pictures to assist anyone planning a similar engine swap.

The only things left to do are the muffler and choke linkage. I haven’t decided on either yet... any Suggestions?

Thanks... Our first year with the cart was Dale Jr.’s last year with that paint scheme. My father in-law did the body and trim....

The stock engine was getting tired and by the end of last summer there was quite the cloud of blue smoke trailing behind.

I’m using a Comet Duster clutch with a drive belt for a “Coot ATV”. The long belt allowed me to set the engine forward in the engine bay. Hopefully I can squeeze a good muffler in to keep it as quiet as possible.

Nice Work I'm to the same point with my 99 txt. Mine also has no lift it was a challenge to get it all to fit and no room left for a muffler but I am going to find a spot can't wait to see how she runs

I’ve run it without a muffler, just the header and an 18” flex pipe, It runs great (although way too loud for the trailer park I’ll be using it in).

What are you using for a choke linkage? I was looking at fabricating a linkage to the original cable or rigging up a hobby servo with a dial mounted in place of the cable below the seat.

I haven't decided on the choke. Where mine carb ended up in can reach it through the wheel well but that's not to convenient. Ill probably fab a seesaw type bracket and just use the original cable

did you still have reverse after the swap . i just bought a lifted cart putting a 15hp honda in it wondering on the reverse guy i got it from said there would be no reverse with my set up but on the rear end has a lever switch on top . does this make it run in reverse . new to golf carts thanks for any info. great looking cart.

I still have reverse but it depends on the cart and rear end I suspect the lever you are referring to is a governor lever not a shift lever but know what cart you have and rear end should get you a better answer

I made a lever to reverse the choke pull on my G9, it works nice. Used 1/8 rod and drilled a hole in the plastic choke lever. An actuator might be nicer I was thinking, project for a later day I suppose. I have a car muffler it is about loud as a garden tractor but should be quieter with a tailpipe. I like a little bark on the trail so I was trying to figure out a valve for the muffler outlet to open/close, then put a tail pipe on after that for when closed. I use it around houses sometimes quiet would be better lol.

I had Robertson torque tubes make me a pipe to my muffler (header actually) and it works really nice. I put his moving union thing on it so it can rotate, then hung the muffler under the bumper on rubber autozone hangars so it can move some. Working great so far. Its in my build thread on clones, second g9 clone. The pipe was two sizes it gets larger, and one fits inside the other so I put it on then welded it together for my final length.
