Comet FNR gearbox
Has anyone used one? It says that it's good up to 16hp.

Re: Comet FNR gearbox
looks neat ! but the gatling gun kit on there is even better..lol really most carts that are modded are going to be more than the 16 hp limit on this .. and its only good for 4000 rpms if you have a stock 16 hp or less motor then the 4000 rpm limit would be fine seeing that most stock motors only turn 3600 rpm.. good find though !!

Re: Comet FNR gearbox
I'm going to be running a stock 16hp clone....but with some pretty big tires. I've been searching but I can't find anyone that's actually used one.

Re: Comet FNR gearbox
I found some reviews. The only negative that I can find is the plastic shift lever but they make an aluminum replacement. Total for that setup would be about $315.
OR I could go with a new transaxle from Surplus center for about $400. What do yall suggest? |

Re: Comet FNR gearbox
I am going to use a 400 sportsman 4x4, H,L,N,and reverse tranny with a #50 chain to the cc rear end. I have 23.5 tires and will start with a 24 tooth sprocket on the output of the tranny and a 12 tooth sprocket on the rearend input shaft, The polaris already uses the 1 3/16 belt. The motor is a 20 hp kohler with a 780 comet to start with. If my calculations are correct it should give a 49mph in high at 3600 rpms and 22 mph in low. The main concern I have is if the tranny will be hard to shift. I have a older polaris and sometimes you have to rock it to get the gears to mesh easier. I picked a newer one that uses two shift shafts thinking it would be smoother. It will be a little hard to rock my carryall 6 especially if it has a load on it.

Re: Comet FNR gearbox
Charlie, why would you use the trans out of the quad? Why not just use the cart differential?
