Default vanguard no /intermittet spark

Just put a 16hp vanguard in my club car and put it on a starter gen setup I was in the middle of wiring the switch to kill the motor when I let off the pedal but now I have no spark sometimes one or two pops but then nothing I wonder if I shorted those diodes in the coil wiring any help would be great

How were you trying to wire it to shut off. The teminal on the side of the motor needs to be grounded to kill the motor. If you put 12vdc to it, you likely shorted one or both of the diodes. If that happened, you'll get no spark. If the diode(s) were open, you would be able to start the motor, but not stop it by using the grounding terminal. You can either test them with a meter, or just remove them from the coils and see if it starts. You will have to snuff out the carb to shut the motor off.

Got it marathon that's exactly what I did put 12v to the diodes and it killed the motor so I thought I was on the right track lil careless lol so I need to find a ground circuit that's completed when I let off the pedal

And basically your saying it would have ran if I would have just yanked the diode wires out. Is it possible to just ran an open ground to the coils and when I want the motor to shut down ground the coils

Not without a relay. The diodes isolate the two coils from each other. You can buy them at radioshack. Ask for 1N4007 diodes. They are just a few cents each.

Ha don't get any easier than that thanks again marathon so to kill the motor you need to ground the diodewire ccorrect

This is how I wired my clone to shut off, it also needs a ground to kill it. On a standard bosch relay wire the NC pin (87a) to ground, wire pin 30 to your coil wire that kills it (the coil wire to the kill or key switch from the engine coil(s).) This will kill the engine all the time until you energize the relay by running 12v through the 86/85 pins. So ground pin 85 and hook pin 86 to your 12v from the pedal. It will be killed all the time unless the pedal is pushed. If you have to emergency start it (like I can with the recoil starter) you put the relay in a plug for it, pull the relay out of the plug and the engine will run all the time. Both relay and plugs are like $3 each on amazon.

On a V-twin, you need to use 2 separate contacts if you remove the diodes. If you use the same contact for both coils, you'll get no spark.

You could use two relays, but the normal kill switch is after the diodes right?
