Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
I did write up some info on another thread, but this project really belongs here. I've read a few Bravo swaps and one other Enticer build, but I haven't seen anyone do this.....
About 6-8 months ago I purchased an Enticer 250 snomobile top end, jug and piston, used in good running order. I got the idea from another thread here.... http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/big-b...-250-swap.html The OP of this thread used the Enticer engine in his G1, changed the electronics to run backwards, and used the G1 crank and clutch. He had indicated that the G1 cylinder and head were strikingly similar. So, I did the natural thing that a man who craves more power....I bought the Enticer top end! Here's the deal. The castings are EXACTLY the same! Even the bolt holes for the plastic ducting/engine cover are the same. Physically in size and basic design, I see absolutely no differences. Same as Daveswaves said. On the Enticer parts: the piston is bigger, the ports in the cylinder walls are totally different, there is no reeds, and the head combustion area is different. Otherwise, you'd have a hard time telling the two apart. I'm convinced that the G1 engine was developed from the Enticer 250. Forgive me if this is "common knowledge" but I have never seen anything that has even remotely come close to this idea. I have seen threads where people talked about how Yamaha supposedly borrowed a snowmobile engine setup and detuned it for the golf cart. I believe it's from the Enticer 250. So in Daveswaves thread, he claimed that you could possibly swap in the head of the Enticer onto the G1 for a raise in compression. He also suggested that one could use the Enticer top end on the G1, and retain the stock bottom end. Well, since my bottom end is a freshly broken in rebuild, I decided to swap in the top end. The G1 engine is rated at around 8-9 hp. The Enticer 250 is rated at around 25 hp, at least according to the internet searches I've done. So the question is.....how much power will I have after swapping the top end onto a stock G1 bottom end? Hmmmm....One could argue that without the stock Enticer muffer/pipe, I'd be sacrificing lots of power, right? What about with a Plowman's performance muffler/exhaust? When I look at the Enticer stock pipe (on the net), it looks very similar in shape and length as the G1 setup. The performance muffler I have is said to be an "expansion chamber" type setup like most 2 strokes....sooooo.....? |

Re: Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
First let me go over what I am using with this project:
1. Stock Enticer 250 top end (cylinder, head, piston, wrist pin and bearing) 2. Stock Bravo 250 carburetor (with cables and intake boot) 3. Stock Enticer exhaust flange (to be used on the intake side) more on this later.... 4. Plowman's G1 performance muffler 5. Plowman's performance secondary clutch kit and belt 6. Stock G1 primary clutch, with 3/8" shim on spring The project will attempt to use these parts to achieve factory-like looks, while increasing performance by a decent margin. Baseline: The stock G1 with the Plowman's muffler and clutch would accelerate decently up my slightly inclined gravel driveway with no wheel spinning. By the end of the driveway I would max out at 17mph via GPS readings. The top end was 26.5 mph via GPS, but it took a paved 1/4 mile stretch to do this. The cart would run well, but lacked any kind of "seat of the pants" excitement under acceleration. These tests were conducted multiple times and reflect an average of multiple speed runs. Once this project is completed, I will do the same test runs and compare/contrast. |

Re: Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
Now the first step was to clean up the Enticer parts and inspect them thoroughly. They looked really good, in fact, I was impressed at how clean the cylinder walls were. Very close in condition to the 1 year old parts on the G1. Probably a testament to the oiling system on the Enticer.
You'll notice some big differences in the ports on the cylinder walls, and also the head is noticeably built for more compression. The piston on the Enticer is also bigger, surprise! |

The next pics compare the G1 parts to the Enticer parts. So the first pic will be G1, the second pic will be Enticer.

Re: Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
Today I got the parts installed. The carb didn't fit all that well, the bottom hits the tranny, so I'm gonna have to build some kind of spacer setup. But, for testing purposes.....IT RUNS! In fact, it fired right up! And in comparison to the G1....it sounds like a 2 stroke! Very raspy. But is revs very quickly. I didn't want to overdo it, but I played with it a little bit. It's getting too much air right now with no air filter on it, but it didn't leave the garage. I literally had to put my hand over the carb to get it to start. Then while revving it I had to keep my hand partially over it, not much when revving, but at low rpm and idle it needed my hand over the carb to stay running. And as long as I kept it there it ran, quite well I might add...
Tomorrow will be: get throttle and choke cable setup done; get intake boot setup done; order air filter Once that stuff is done......it's ride time! |

Re: Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
Definitely. I think there's gonna be alot of G1 owners going Enticer 250!

Re: Yamaha G1 Enticer 250 Project
The first thing I did today was get the intake/carb setup figured out. I couldn't locate a carb mount from an Enticer, so I just used the extra exhaust flange that I had from the G1. It actually fits perfectly. I used a 1 1/2" rubber fernco fitting, it was a tight fit, but with some heat from my propane heater I warmed it up enough that I got it to fit, nice and snug.
The intake tube is 1 1/2" pvc pipe fittings, two 45's together gave me enough offset to get the carb up off the trans. The stock Bravo carb boot fit tightly on the pipe end. It works nicely. I just need to fab up a support that comes off the trans to hold it still, it's pretty bouncy. I also need to find a motorcycle filter for it. The O.D. is 2". Anyone have any suggestions. |
