Re: clone charging??
just incase this info helps anyone else i called carroll stream motor co. and they said the motor only has a 3amp charging system and they sell a 6 amp charging system (still not sure if thats enough but i bought on anyway) $26 shipped to the door gonna try it when it gets here also thinking of mounting a pully on the front of the drive clutch to spin a small car altenator(like a gm 1 wire setup) any thoughts on wether or not this idea will work??

Re: clone charging??
Thanks for sharing that info. In my way of thinking a 3amp charging circuit at 12 volts would be 36watts of charging capacity while 6amp would be 72watts. That sound right?

Re: clone charging??
i don't know how the physics of all that adds up but i know right now it will charge the battery back up from using the starter but my elec fuel pump draws almost 3 amps, i put a volt meter on the batt and i got like 12.8 when just running the motor but if i turn on my fuel pump that drops to 10 something add the lights and its down to 8 something i need more juice did you see my idea about a car alternator ....any thoughts??

I'm not really sure about all this either. I calculated watts by using P=IV or power(watts)=I(current)xV(volts). Seems like you would need 146 watts to run your fuel pump and lights not including any charging. I believe this would be a little over 12Amp draw total. I also just found something on the net about a Honda QNR2 which is just a variation of the GX390 that comes with an 18amp charging coil. Man if a guy could get his hands on one of those he'd have plenty of charge (216watts). Your alternator idea might be slick too. That's pretty much what my CC did in stock form. Do those have voltage regulation? |

Re: clone charging??
This is something I was wondering about. It seems to me that you could just tie the outputs together after the diodes. It also seems that you would have to find a place to mount it for proper positioning with the flywheel. Cool idea!

Re: clone charging??
and what about rigging a gm 1 wire alternator with an electric motor of its own, if the right motor is used the amps used to drive it will be will be way less than it produces am i thinking right??
