Default 16 hp vanguard perfomance questions

I have a 2012 vanguard ... little disapointed in performance just wondering where a good place to start out to gain some rpm and power... I have seen the high rev Kit and the advance key... with just these to mods will I gain anything?

Do the key and rev do anything themselves or is a cam a must right off the bat... I did not wanna pull the motor this summer

Check out Nate's video of him ripping the yard up in his cart. That should convince you enough to follow his advice.

to be honest you should be gettin up and going a lot more than the original motor..when i went to a 13hp engine it was double power just stepping up 5hp for me..a cam will do great if the motor is running good, but if your not getting power now the cam dont seem to be your problem?
when my new 420 gets broke in this weekend i will be installing a 6 or 8degree advanced key also, and ive herd they make a big difference..get better gas milage, better bottom and top end.and all around they say the engine will run better like it should have from the factory im told.
you sure your clutchs are working correct?
have you jacked up the rear and run it and watch the clutches yet? the engine clutch should close up aand the rear one open about the same time..theres videos on here if you search for them
is this a newer engine?

cart zilla,do you really have a 2 barrel carb? what brand and off of what..i may need 2 of these soon..but 1 could work

Is the governor still hooked up in the vanguard? You won't really be impressed by the v-twin until you remove it. You will need a rev-kit for sure without it. An offset key will come with the rev-kit from CPP. I would also recommend larger billet pushrods($40). I bent my stock rods. For more compression, replace the stock head gaskets with the copper gaskets from CPP. If you want a little more out of the stock cam, advance it one tooth. If you want a little more than that, install a stock 23hp cam straight up. Still more? Add a 2-barrel carb/intake. You can see, it never stops. Here's a sample of what you can get out of these motors, and mine isn't really modified that much. It is still driveable.

My fatty cam came in with the hipro springs and rev kit. I just ordered the carb, intake, 90 degree adapter and gaskets this week. Gonna start as soon as everything gets here. Really looking forward to what the big cam will put out. Wonder if there is a dyno in Orlando anywhere that test the before and after!
