clutch poping starter belt
I have a Carrol Stream 16hp that I put a club cart clutch on. The pulley for the starter belt is skinny so the starter belt sticks up about 1/8-3/16". Which is fine, but my centering on the mounting bolt is not so great. At high RPM the starter belt pops off. Does anyone know it there is a wider pulley for the cub cart clutch? I'm also open to super small idler pulley's. Sorry for not pics it is dark at this moment.

Sho305 The auto store didn't have one.
I think I'm giving up on this engine. The bracket that holds the starter just snapped off due to the vibration. I think my best bet is to just get a new engine and have a machine shop drill the shaft. The old motor will be for part since you can't get parts for it. |

Re: clutch poping starter belt
All the clones are the same, you can get parts for them or use honda parts. Only the 420cc has a different crank/piston/cylinder bore otherwise same as gx390.
My starter/gen bracket broke too. I welded a heavier end on it and then the bolt came out and wrecked the bolt. Got another metric bolt and blue loctited that thing in. I'm going to add a second leg so there are two bolts into the engine, when I get the cart near a welder. Its too much fun to run however. Does the CC pulley come off? Most are built in to the clutch. I don't remember what the CC is. |

Re: clutch poping starter belt
sho305 I just have to say you are all over the board with great advice. Thank You.
I can get a honda starter for around $125. I'm thinking just fix the real problem and get a new engine. I will be able to have the crank drilled correct, a starter/gen that works and parts for a little more. Eventually I would expect the bearings would just rattle the shaft apart too. I have a huyndai and the starter/gen is heavy. Due to the wiring I drain the battery. Not sure if it a lack of charge or the lack of not turning the starter off? The cc clutch popped off when I changed the allthread to a bolt because I put a lock washer on that was smaller than the key hole slot. I just added a washer that went over the key and I rolled on. As you can see I'm moving but at baby steps for now. Thanks again for all the advice. |

Re: clutch poping starter belt
sho305 how difficult is it to remove the shaft so it could be drilled? I went to a machine shop and they suggest I remove the shaft so they could do the best and less expensive job. Thank you again for all your help.
