Re: 18hp bigbkock build help
A few questions before we can give good answers.
Why does it need to be rebuilt? What are you looking to get out of it? Are you just looking for a stock setup, or do you want more performance? |

Re: 18hp big block build help
I would focus on getting it started so you can see what kind of shape it is in. The only reason to rebuild is if the motor has mechanical issues, or is giving poor performance from being worn.
Does it turn over? Does it have spark? |

Re: 18hp big block build help
Have you given it a shot of carb cleaner into the carb and then tried to start it?

Re: 18hp big block build help
I'm not talking about cleaning the carb. If you open the throttle, spray about a 2-second shot of carb cleaner into the carb, then close the throttle and try to start it. Does it fire at all?

Re: 18hp big block build help
Both plugs have spark?
Do you have a compression tester? If not, remove the plugs and cover each plug hole with your thumb(don't stick your finger in the hole). Crank the motor and see if each cylinder has compression. It won't tell you how much compression it has, but it will give you some idea if there is something really wrong. |
