Re: 16HP clone engine parts ???
Should be a 420cc clone? Other than the piston/block/crank any gx390 part will work on it, or 390/420 clone part. The 420 clone has 2mm more stroke in the crank and 2mm more bore in the block and piston....otherwise the same or very similar enough that parts interchange. I got some parts off ebay but sure other places have them, the gokart places have some stuff.

Re: 16HP clone engine parts ???
I pulled the head off because I stripped out the exhaust bolts. When it came off I found a small cap. Didn't know what it was. I think it fits over the top of the push rods so I must have lost one. Am I correct in the cap going on top of the push rod?

Re: 16HP clone engine parts ???
The stock engine has a lash cap on one valve (exhaust) not the other. You can tell because the relief hole in one spring seat (it holds spring on) is larger to fit the cap, which just sits on top of the valve end more or less. With the rocker on it can't come off. When I put HD valve springs in I got another exhaust cap and seat and put on the intake valve so both have them now. Otherwise the stock valves can wear and deform with more pressure on them....that is why with bigger cams they go to SS valves and automotive locks, the stock ones can't take it.
They also put a retainer under the exhaust spring not the intake, I got another of those for the intake as well. It keeps the bottom of the spring from moving around off center. Go here: http://www.stoutracingengines.com/15hp.html Scroll down to the pic of valve springs and pushrods, part #78 is the cap. |

Re: 16HP clone engine parts ???
From your response I guess you have hopped up the clone. What do you think of it oppose to stock? What have you put in it and around how much invested? I have a spare clone home looking for a home and maybe some high performance parts. You know the deal been working some overtime and the money needs to be spent on something IMPORTANT!!!!

Re: 16HP clone engine parts ???
I have a thread in the clone section, its the 2nd one I did. The first is stock and runs well but wont rev much. This one I put 4 degree advance key, cut head .050, ported head, HD valve springs and 1.3 ratio rockers. Has a 1" header made by robinson torque tubes to fit cart, walker quietflow car muffler, a car airbox and minivan hose to the carb, but still has stock carb elbow on it. Stock G9 clutches but drilled the primary weights some and just put a new secondary on with a Umax spring and new seat and new cut sheave. Also running a HD kevlar belt from cpp. Pretty happy with it now it gets up and goes better than stock, though not a huge difference until it revs out. The top end is much better than stock it pulls more rpm no problem. Same gearing/tires and it runs 37gps the stock one I hit 31mph. My primary is pretty worn the stock one was rebuilt with a new sheave, not sure what difference that makes.
I can't do much more to it other than a better carb, even larger carb I doubt it would make much difference but this one surges and stuff at times at part throttle. The lawn carbs just don't get it for this use. Far as power I need a cam next but then you have to put a rod in it too, if you go high rpm you need a flywheel also. I'd like to do a torque cam 6K rpm max and a rod, but you are talking 3 bills for those I rather a new primary first. |
