gx390 club car conversion Clutch questions
I picked up a honda gx390 that i would like to put in my '97 CC electric cart instead of buying newing batteries. i have been reading a bunch of posts regarding clutches but still have a few questions.
I have seen where people warn of issues with clutch hitting the rear leaf springs on CC's. i feel like i have plenty of room. Which type of drive and driven clutches would you recommend? thanks |

I think you'll need a gas rear end, too...

Uh oh. I hope not. There is a rear diff on there now with a .750 spline I figured I could mount a driven clutch on.

Re: gx390 club car conversion Clutch questions
Nobody has done that before however some have put 6.5hp in electric carts with a tav2 converter on them, and chain drive to the electric axle. Is possible you could jackshaft a secondary and chain drive that, you still have the issue of no reverse gear with elec axle.

Ya, I wouldnt recommend this conversion. You will be money ahead and itll be 1/10th the frustration by selling the cart and finding one with a gas rearend.

Re: gx390 club car conversion Clutch questions
The tav2 is cheap, but you have to move up to a larger cvt over 8hp I think it was. So you buy the typical comet or other brands sold for golf carts and buggies with 10-20+hp. Naturally they cost much more than tav2 and if you include a jackshaft/bearings you get to a point where a gas rear or cart might be a better way to go. The tav2 has a jackshaft built in (secondary mounted on a plate) more or less but you can't do that easily with more power you need a full shaft to handle the torque without bending like a plate would.
You can do this swap if you want, price the stuff out and see where you are at. |
