Default Primary Clutch HELP!!!!

Fellow riders please HELP! I tried this in ez go gas forum with no help, and now I'm asking you! Have a 2000 ez go with a stock (rebuilt) motor, 170 psi on the compression gage for both cyl. 5 inch lift 23 inch tires. my problem is the same hills I was pulling 2 years ago I can no longer pull. the primary clutch spins on the belt. So I just installed a new comet duster 94 primary. Still same problem, it slows down and then just spins on the belt, oh it's a brand new belt as well, also tried a stock belt and an older (broke in) belt. How can I make the belt stick???? Please again any advise would be great, it just makes no sense.

Where is the belt riding at on the secondary when this happens?

thanks for replying Marathon, the secondary is riding at the very top, I installed the 28 degree ramps and spring kit to the secondary. I'm looking for slow torque, I use this machine mainly as a farm vehicle

I will try to get on one here by the end of today, my original primary had a small ridge on the outer face, so I tried the power spring on it first before buying the new one, imagine my disappointment.

Just a side note, this cart pulled me another guy and a drug a deer up for said hill. About 500 + pounds, with new clutch I had to get my wife to dive and push to get it out. Thank goodness she's small.

You need to have the belt at bottom of primary and top of secondary at low speed to pull good. You still only have 9.5hp or so. Is the belt slipping or is the engine so weak/load so high it can't achieve engagement rpm? Put a clone in it and you can pull all kinds of stuff.

If it slows down you don't have the power or gearing(CVT or trans or tire size) is too high. Make sure the engine is not moving on mounts to the trans (under torque), that will bog it out every time, but I'm not familiar with ezgo mounts at all.

The problem is once you overload it will slow to under engagement, the belt will slip. Most say it 'bogs'. Once the belt slips it burns, you make friction not motion. Best you can do is mod the secondary to get the belt high as you can, say half way out the top. Move the engine so you have minimum slack in the belt at rest, that will make it engage with the belt down at the bottom giving lowest gearing. Make sure the engine is not moving. EZGO guys here would know the particulars of them or mods you can do.

Say your clutch is set to engage at 2500rpm then it will slip under 2500 and not slip over 2500. Higher gets you more into the powerband but is also higher speed you need to not slip. Most set it for peak torque rpm.

Thanks sho305, when this occurs the secondary is completely closed and belt is at top if secondary and very bottom of primary, I hit the gas the primary closes in aprox 1500 rpm(strait out of the box comet duster) and you can watch the primary just slip around the belt. that's what I don't understand, this never happened before. I'm trying to convince the BOSS I need to big block it! You all know how that goes for OUR TOYS as they call it.

How steep is this hill? And you say you went up the same hill with a buddy and dragging a deer before? I'm thinking low power issue (engine related) or primary clutch issue. You say you changed the spring in the primary? I'd switch it back. Also, does the cart go halfway up the hill before it stops? Or will it not go up the hill at all?
